Story Highlight | Kleine Zeitung | Das alte Hohe Haus glänzt im neuen Gewand

We’re happy to share that Shorthand customers received outstanding recognition at the European Newspaper Awards. A special shout-out to Kleine Zeitung for bagging accolades for THREE Shorthand stories.

In this week’s Story Highlight, we feature Kleine Zeitung's award-winning story on the six-year renovation of the Austrian Parliament building.

The story is a visual masterpiece, showcasing the technicality of the renovation project. Kleine Zeitung’s use of Shorthand has turned the story itself into a slick, almost architectural product.

A combination of photos and 3D models highlight the general areas to be renovated, while scroll-triggered timelines and detail panels provide historical and cultural context.

Dusty, underdeveloped rooms bloom into slick modern workspaces with the help of Shorthand’s Reveal feature, and colourful data visualisations demonstrate how Parliament actually occupies the revamped physical space.

Despite the plethora of features used, the story never feels rushed or busy — just deliberate, coherent, and celebratory. It’s a worthy award recipient, and we congratulate the Kleine Zeitung team on their success!
